Two Men Found Dead in JetBlue Plane’s Landing Gear at Fort Lauderdale Airport

Two men were discovered dead in the landing gear compartment of a JetBlue flight that arrived at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport from New York City late Monday. The discovery was made during a routine post-flight maintenance inspection.

Authorities from the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) responded around 11:30 p.m. and confirmed both men were deceased. Their identities and the circumstances of how they accessed the plane remain unknown. Autopsies will determine the causes of death.

The JetBlue flight had originated in Kingston, Jamaica, and made stops at JFK and Salt Lake City before arriving in Fort Lauderdale. It’s unclear when or how the men entered the landing gear compartment.

JetBlue stated they are cooperating with authorities in this ongoing investigation. No disruptions to airport operations occurred as the passengers had already deplaned. The aircraft is currently in a remote parking area under JetBlue’s custody.

Stowing away in aircraft landing gear is extremely dangerous due to risks like hypothermia, hypoxia, and the possibility of falling. This tragic incident is part of a rare but perilous phenomenon with a high fatality rate.
