South Florida High School Mourns Loss of Student

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Tamiami is grieving the unexpected loss of sophomore Lucas Osuna. The school described the tragedy as “unimaginable grief.”

Osuna, a member of the Belen water polo team, was participating in a Ransom Everglades invitational on Friday afternoon, according to the Miami Herald.

In a statement, Belen’s president and principal remembered Osuna as an outstanding student who deeply loved his family, friends, and school. “He started at Belen in the 6th grade and greatly impacted all who knew him,” they said, requesting privacy for his family and prayers for his soul.

Ransom Everglades head of school Rachel Rodriguez also expressed condolences, offering support to the Belen Jesuit community.

The circumstances of Osuna’s passing remain unclear. School officials say details regarding memorial arrangements will be shared in the coming days.
