Three women face multiple charges, including racketeering and grand theft, after Miami-Dade Police uncovered a fraudulent accident clinic scheme. Heidy Gonzalez-Perez, 26, Elizabeth Montero, 45, and Maray Arteaga, 39, were arrested Monday for allegedly running the Wise Care Corp. clinic, which staged automobile accidents and filed false insurance claims.
The women recruited patients to fake accidents and visit the clinic for treatment they never received. Despite this, the clinic continued to submit insurance claims. The investigation began in July when two individuals, Cynthia Reyes and Yamil Peniche-Lugo, were arrested for staging an accident. Months later, an insurance claim led investigators to the clinic.
Detectives discovered signed but blank insurance forms, showing that patients rarely, if ever, received treatment. The women, who held various roles at the clinic, were arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday. Bond amounts range from $26,000 to $40,000.
This bust is part of a larger Miami-Dade initiative aimed at curbing insurance fraud, which is rampant in Florida. The state ranks among the top three for insurance fraud in the U.S., with over 1,100 staged accidents annually.
