Cuban actor and model Pedro Moreno was arrested Thursday at his Miami-Dade home following a dispute with his wife, according to police.
The 44-year-old telenovela star, known for roles in El Rostro de Analía and Me Declaro Culpable, had been discussing marital issues late Wednesday night with his wife of 17 years. Though they are in the process of divorcing, the discussion turned tense when Moreno accessed her cellphone and allegedly began “snooping,” according to an arrest report.
The situation escalated when Moreno reportedly refused to return the phone, leading to a physical struggle. Their eldest daughter called the police. By the time officers arrived, Moreno had returned the device. His wife was not injured in the incident.
Originally charged with strong-arm robbery, Moreno’s charge was later reduced to battery. He appeared in court Thursday, where his wife joined via Zoom to defend him.
“This is a one-time thing,” she told the judge. “He was never violent. He’s been a great husband and dad. Things just got out of hand.” She attributed the divorce to career demands and long-distance strain, and even inquired about dismissing the case.
Moreno was released on a $1,000 bond and given a no-violence order.
