A Miami-Dade middle school science teacher is facing deportation after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the United Teachers of Dade confirmed Thursday.

The teacher, a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient, has lived in the U.S. since childhood. They were taken into custody during an immigration hearing, though their identity has not been disclosed.

The union stated that the teacher had the proper authorization and documentation to work for the school district. The district also confirmed that a teacher was detained by federal authorities.

This situation raises concerns about the vulnerability of DACA recipients, even those with valid work permits, as immigration policies continue to evolve.
