Miami Beach police have arrested an employee of the iconic Fontainebleau Hotel, accusing him of stealing a Miami Hurricanes championship ring from the hotel lobby while the University of Miami team was staying there for a title game.

According to an arrest report, the incident occurred Sunday, one day before the Hurricanes’ championship matchup against Indiana. Surveillance video allegedly shows the suspect, later identified as Jean Dor, picking up a ring from the lobby floor, placing it in his pocket, and walking away.

The ring belonged to Cari-Anne Constant, a former co-captain of the University of Miami Sunsations dance team. Constant was wearing a larger men’s championship ring that had previously belonged to her former husband. She had brought the ring to a celebration at LIV nightclub inside the Fontainebleau, where the team was hosting a pre-game event.

Constant’s boyfriend, Joe Mullins, said she briefly removed the ring and placed it on a table. When she later left the hotel, she realized it was missing.

Investigators say surveillance footage shows Dor exiting the hotel, examining the ring outside, then returning to the property with it still in his possession. Police say Dor never turned the ring in to lost and found or alerted hotel staff.

The ring is estimated to be worth approximately $3,500, though Mullins emphasized its sentimental value. “It means far more to her than money,” he said.

Dor told officers he intended to return the ring but claimed he forgot it on a bathroom counter while cleaning. Police say he was read his Miranda rights in Creole and signed a written statement acknowledging he found the ring and failed to return it.

Dor was suspended from his job, trespassed from the Fontainebleau property, and taken into custody. NBC6 has requested surveillance footage and comment from the hotel and police but has not yet received a response.
