An American Heritage Schools student has been expelled after a video surfaced of him using a racial slur. NBC6 confirmed that the student is the son of Douglas Laurie, the school’s president.
The brief video, which contains offensive remarks about African Americans, has sparked outrage. While parents at the Plantation campus declined to speak on camera, many expressed anger and concern. Some fear repercussions if they speak out.
The video was widely shared among students before reaching NBC6. In response, school administrators promptly removed the student and barred him from returning. NBC6 is not disclosing his identity due to his minor status.
In a statement, American Heritage Schools reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment. The school emphasized that it does not tolerate behavior contradicting its values, regardless of the individual involved.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about racism in educational institutions and the accountability of those in leadership positions.
