Ex-Miami-Dade Officer Arrested for Impersonating Police in Florida

A former Miami-Dade police officer was arrested this week after allegedly using his old badge to impersonate law enforcement in Volusia County.

Deputies confronted Paul Fluty, 39, after residents reported a suspicious SUV parked in a driveway in Deltona. When approached, Fluty claimed he was still with Miami-Dade Police and working with U.S. Marshals to track a missing girl. He explained his unmarked vehicle by saying the girl “runs from the cops.”

Investigators quickly discovered Fluty had been fired and had no ties to any federal task force. The sheriff’s office confirmed the girl he referenced was not officially listed as missing.

Bodycam footage shows Fluty presenting himself as an officer before being confronted with the truth. Authorities said his actions not only misled residents but also risked undermining public trust in legitimate investigations.

Fluty was arrested and now faces charges of impersonating an officer. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office stressed that pretending to be law enforcement is a serious crime, particularly when children are involved.
