China has issued a stern warning to countries aligning with the U.S. in ways that harm Beijing’s interests, signaling potential retaliation as global trade tensions escalate.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said Monday that any deal reached “at the expense of China’s interests” would trigger “resolute countermeasures.” This comes amid reports that the Trump administration plans to use tariff negotiations to pressure allies into reducing economic ties with China.
The warning follows President Trump’s move to pause tariff hikes on some nations for 90 days while raising duties on Chinese imports to 145%, intensifying the ongoing trade war between the world’s two largest economies.
China criticized these actions as “unilateral bullying” and accused the U.S. of “abusing tariffs.” The ministry cautioned that the return of global trade to a “law of the jungle” could put all countries at risk.
Despite its sharp tone, China also emphasized its willingness to collaborate with the global community to uphold “international fairness and justice.”
As the U.S. seeks to rally its trade partners, Beijing is making it clear that any moves perceived as hostile will be met with swift retaliation—raising the stakes for nations caught in the middle of the U.S.-China economic standoff.
