Long lines at Miami-Dade DMV offices continue to frustrate residents, with wait times stretching for hours—even for simple services like license renewals.
Recently elected County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez is working to address the issue, adding a new downtown location for license services. However, county-wide improvements will take time.
At the DMV on NW 7th Street, visitors wait outside in the heat, some even denied entry despite the office closing at 5 p.m. Dinelly Toledo shared her husband’s struggle to renew his hazmat license, recalling one instance where he waited from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., only to be sent home without service.
Managing the DMV offices is now a county responsibility, and Fernandez is prioritizing solutions. Plans include increasing staff, extending operating hours, and upgrading technology to prevent appointment resales on the black market.
“It’s one of the issues we don’t have control over yet,” Fernandez said, emphasizing efforts to modernize the system.
In the meantime, residents are urged to schedule appointments online to avoid long waits: DMV Appointment Scheduler.
