A woman gave birth Tuesday evening at Miami International Airport, assisted by personnel from several agencies, including Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. Paramedics responded to the scene in the airport’s departures area around 5 p.m. after receiving a call about a woman in need of medical attention. Upon arrival, Miami-Dade Police, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, and airport staff were already helping the woman, who delivered the baby with their support.

Following the delivery, paramedics transported the mother and newborn to the hospital. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman Helen Avendano did not provide further details due to patient privacy laws.

This isn’t the first time a baby has been born at the airport. In 2021, a mother gave birth to her daughter in an airport bathroom and named her “Mia” in honor of the location.

The incident highlights the unexpected ways in which airports can become unconventional birthplaces, with staff from various agencies coming together to assist in emergencies.
