A fast-moving brush fire swept through Miami-Dade and Broward counties Sunday, threatening homes and forcing residents to escape by airboat when flames blocked the only road out.

The fire ignited near North Krome Avenue and Northwest 186th Street, with video showing flames ripping through dry sawgrass west of U.S. 27. More than a dozen Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded, with air rescue conducting water drops. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service joined the effort along Max Road.

Residents near Max’s Fish Camp found themselves trapped. Roxanne Gil, home with her boyfriend and their one-year-old, said neighbors were hosing down their houses before firefighters arrived. The blaze reached 30% containment in Miami-Dade; in Broward, crews had made no containment progress. No injuries were reported.
