A viral video showing a South Florida woman defending herself after a racist remark has been viewed over half a million times.
The incident happened Tuesday at a Coral Springs La Quinta, where 23-year-old Colleen Dagg confronted 39-year-old Summer Cortts after allegedly hearing her insult Haitians. Dagg, who is white, said Cortts claimed Haitians were prone to lawsuits.
Video shows Cortts cursing, threatening, and striking Dagg, who then fought back, punching her to the ground. Cortts later claimed she was pregnant and demanded charges. Police ruled Dagg acted in self-defense, instead citing Cortts for disorderly conduct and barring her from the hotel.
Dagg said she acted both to defend herself and to confront racism: “It’s my job as a white person to correct that in another white person.”
