Two Tickets Share $1.8B Powerball Jackpot, Second-Largest in U.S. History

After more than three months without a jackpot winner, Saturday’s Powerball drawing delivered life-changing news for two players. Tickets sold in Texas and Missouri matched all six numbers—11, 23, 44, 61, 62 and the red Powerball 17—winning a combined $1.787 billion, the second-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

In addition to the jackpot winners, 18 players across the country claimed $1 million prizes, while two others in Texas and Kansas doubled their winnings to $2 million thanks to the Power Play option.

The $1.787 billion prize narrowly trails the record $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won in California in November 2022. It also capped the game’s longest-ever jackpot run, stretching more than 40 consecutive drawings since May 31.

Winners may choose a 30-year annuity or a lump sum of $826.4 million before taxes. Federal withholding takes 24% immediately, with more owed at filing, plus varying state taxes. Players in states like Texas and Florida are exempt from state income tax, while others could owe up to 10.9%.

“Every ticket sold helps fund public programs across the country,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair. “That’s worth celebrating.”
