As the Atlantic hurricane season approaches its peak on September 10, meteorologists are closely watching Invest 91L, a tropical disturbance showing strong potential for development. Originating as an easterly wave from Africa, the system entered Atlantic waters near Cabo Verde and began organizing late this week.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported Thursday that 91L has a 90% chance of strengthening into a tropical depression or storm within days. Should it develop, it will be named Gabrielle.

The disturbance is moving west at about 10 mph along a low latitude, prompting concern in the eastern Caribbean. Forecast models remain split: the American GFS turns it north harmlessly, the European model directs it toward the Leeward Islands, and Google’s DeepMind AI suggests a track toward the Windward Islands.

Caribbean residents will continue monitoring the system, while U.S. mainland residents have at least two weeks before any potential impact. After a lull following Hurricane Erin, 91L could mark the beginning of a more active storm period.
