Fort Lauderdale police are investigating a serious crash after a train struck a car stuck on tracks early Saturday morning.
At about 3:27 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Southwest Second Street, where three cars were stranded on the rails. As a train approached, it slammed into one vehicle, while the others collided in their attempt to escape.
During the chaos, one car hit a woman, who was hospitalized at Broward Health Medical Center. Her condition remains unknown. A nearby business was also damaged when one of the cars was pushed off course.
Video captured the moment of impact, and witnesses described panic and confusion. One man, who narrowly avoided the crash, said, “If we had left 30 seconds earlier, that could have been us.”
Roads from West Broward Boulevard to West Davie Boulevard were temporarily closed but have since reopened. Police have not released further details about the drivers involved.
