A fatal crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike near Red Road at around 1:45 a.m., involving a wrong-way driver, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. A 55-year-old woman from Hialeah was driving a 2010 grey Honda Element SUV in the wrong direction on the inside lane when she collided head-on with a 2016 Honda Civic driven by 23-year-old Ezekiel Urrutia from Cutler Bay.
The impact caused the Honda Element to hit a concrete barrier and overturn, while the Civic spun around. Tragically, Urrutia did not survive the crash, as confirmed by his family. The woman suffered severe injuries and was hospitalized. The incident highlights the dangers of wrong-way driving on major highways.
