A devastating three-car crash in Miami Gardens on Saturday evening left five people dead, including four children, and sent five others to the hospital, officials confirmed.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene at Northwest 170th Street and 37th Avenue. According to investigators, the crash occurred when a black Kia Sorento rear-ended a white Nissan Altima, causing it to collide with a silver Cadillac Escalade.
An off-duty Opa-locka officer witnessed the incident. Emergency crews extricated three victims, while six people were rushed to trauma centers, and four others were transported to a Broward County hospital.
The four victims who died were inside the Altima. Their identities have not yet been released.
Authorities detained the driver of the Sorento, who remains in stable condition. It is unclear if they will face charges. The conditions of the five hospitalized individuals remain unknown.
