Tragic Loss in Miami: Young Officer Dies After Cosmetic Surgery

Wildelis Rosa, a 26-year-old police officer from New Orleans and U.S. Army Reservist, died tragically in Miami just days after undergoing cosmetic surgery. Rosa had traveled to Florida under the pretense of a birthday trip but underwent a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) at Prestige Plastic Surgery on March 19, paying $7,495 for liposuction and fat transfer.

Her family was unaware of the procedure until Rosa mentioned it three days later. Soon after, she began experiencing severe complications: dropping blood pressure, breathing difficulties, and numbness in her legs. On March 23, a friend found her unresponsive at a rental home. Efforts to revive her failed.

The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was a pulmonary embolism — a known risk of such surgeries. Rosa had been discharged from the clinic just one hour post-op and complained of intense pain the following day.

Rosa’s sister, Anamin Vazquez, said, “She had dreams of working for the FBI. Her death was unnecessary.” Rosa is one of at least 25 people who have died in Miami-Dade after cosmetic surgeries in the last 3.5 years, mostly women.

Vazquez hopes her sister’s story serves as a cautionary tale. “Too many lives have been lost. People need to understand the risks before going under the knife.”
