A weekend search for a missing boater in Miami-Dade ended in heartbreak when investigators discovered his body Saturday morning.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) reported the incident began Friday evening when they received calls about an abandoned personal watercraft in a Kendall canal. Hours later, divers recovered the body of 20-year-old Giancarlo Gonzalez nearby.
Friends described Gonzalez as a bright, joyful presence. “He was a beautiful soul, always laughing, always making us smile,” said Anthony Perez, his best friend.
The investigation into what caused the accident is still ongoing. For now, Gonzalez’s family and friends are left grieving the sudden loss of a young life cut short on the water.
