The Venetian Pool is an important architectural artifact in the history of Miami, as it dates all the way back to ancient Mediterranean architecture and still bears many of its original features. The pool has become a symbol of Miami after it opened to the public, becoming an instant favorite with locals and tourists alike. It is the largest freshwater pool in the United States and occupies 820,000 US gallons (3,100 m3) of fresh water from artesian wells every day.

The pool is a large expanse of water ranging from 4 feet deep to over 8 feet near the waterfall, with a kiddy pool close to the lifeguard station; the station is on top of a bridge leading out to an island with two full-sized palm trees. The grotto provides a beautiful place to enjoy the peaceful swimming area and serene natural setting. There are three areas of the park that are worth mentioning. The first is a sandy sunning area for sun-seekers, a café area that is often used for parties, weddings, and receptions, and the final area is the winding walking path that surrounds the entire complex allowing visitors to take in the different attractions from various angles.

The original location of the Venetian Pool was a limestone rock quarry, but in 1924, developer George Merrick turned it into a Casino. He was a visionary and designed and built the city of Coral Gables. It was named after the city of Venice, Italy, and included Venetian-style bridges and mooring posts that were covered in trees in a blissful neighborhood with a small-town vibe. Venetian Pool has gone through several phases. The pool received extensive historical restoration in 1989. The pool was closed to the public between September 8, 2008, and April 30, 2009, to do another major renovation. Part of the masterful plan, the Venetian Pool was meant to be a social gathering place for locals and residents alike. It would serve as a place where they could meet, have fun and interact with one another.

Today, visitors to the pool can learn about the history of the facility by viewing a series of pictures in a variety of different locations including the entryway. The Venetian Pool is the only swimming pool in the United States that has been recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, thus making it both a uniquely historic and iconic landmark. Not only does it provide a truly memorable experience with its swimming activities, but making it the only swimming pool in the nation with such an esteemed and iconic reputation.

The Venetian Pool is not open on major holidays, including New Year’s Day and Christmas Day. The pool can sometimes be closed during the off-season. The pool can also be used for special events like weddings, birthday parties, and corporate events.
