Stalking, Secrets, and Surveillance: Attempted Murder Caught on Camera in Miami Gardens

A chilling surveillance video has emerged showing the moment Bilal Ismail allegedly shot his ex-mother-in-law twice at her Miami Gardens home. The 49-year-old now faces attempted first-degree murder and could spend life in prison if convicted.

The video shows Ismail crouching as he enters the home on 203rd Terrace in April. Within 15 seconds, two gunshots ring out. He then calmly walks out, locks the door, and leaves, appearing unfazed. Moments later, the victim—bloodied and moaning—stumbles outside until a passerby offers help.

Prosecutors say Ismail, enraged over family disputes, knew the victim was home alone. He allegedly cut the internet wires to disable security cameras and carried out a premeditated attack. According to police, Ismail confessed to having deep animosity toward his former mother-in-law, accusing her of turning his family against him once his financial support ended.

At his bond hearing, his ex-wife testified that Ismail had stalked her for months, even attaching four GPS trackers to her car. She also said he had repeatedly threatened to kill her mother.

Despite these allegations, Ismail’s defense team claims he acted in self-defense after being attacked. Newly obtained court documents suggest his attorneys may pursue an insanity defense.

Judge Christine Hernandez, citing the video and Ismail’s deliberate actions, denied bail. “He went there with intent, disabled the internet, fired two shots, and left like nothing happened,” she said.

Ismail remains in custody awaiting trial. The case has highlighted concerns over domestic violence, stalking, and the use of technology in abuse. The victim, though gravely injured, survived and is recovering. The incident has shaken the local community and renewed calls for stronger protections for women facing threats from former partners.
