South Florida Man Acquitted Again in Domestic Violence Case

For the second time in less than three weeks, a South Florida man has been found not guilty of domestic violence-related charges.

A Broward County jury acquitted 55-year-old Gayle Blount on Wednesday of battery charges for allegedly pushing his ex-girlfriend, Bridget Knighton, into a table at a restaurant in 2021. This follows his February acquittal in Miami, where he was found not guilty after shooting Knighton five times, claiming self-defense.

“I can’t even say I’m shocked,” Knighton said. “I’m afraid for my life. That hasn’t changed.”

Blount’s attorney, Jonathan Jordan, said video evidence helped clear his client. The footage showed Knighton standing over Blount during an argument before he pushed her.

“We showed it to the jury—after hearing what she said, they chose to acquit him,” Jordan stated.

Blount was previously acquitted of attempted murder after testifying that he shot Knighton in May 2021 because he believed she was reaching for a gun.

After spending four years in jail fighting cases in two counties, Blount is now set to be released.

“He spent four years in custody, and it took that long to prove his innocence,” Jordan said. “The next step is freedom for him.”

But for Knighton, his release is terrifying. She claims she suffered abuse throughout their relationship and vows to keep fighting.

“I’m going to be relentless in my pursuit of justice,” she said. “It’s not over.”
