MIAMI — A police-involved shooting during the Best of the Best music festival in downtown Miami on Sunday left two people injured, authorities said.
According to Miami Police Deputy Chief Armando Aguilar, an officer directing traffic near 2nd Street and Biscayne Boulevard was struck by a vehicle. In response, the officer opened fire on the car.
It remains unclear whether shots were fired from inside the vehicle. One occupant of the car was shot and is in critical but stable condition following surgery. The officer was also injured, though details of their condition have not been released. Both were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
The identities of those involved have not yet been disclosed, and police have not confirmed if anyone else was in the vehicle. The incident occurred during the Best of the Best festival, a major Caribbean music event expected to draw approximately 12,000 attendees.
The investigation is ongoing.
