A second teenager has died following a devastating four-vehicle crash in Pompano Beach that already claimed the life of a 16-year-old driver on Friday. Seventeen-year-old Richard Grable III succumbed to severe brain injuries on Sunday, according to his father.
The crash occurred on West Copans Road when a Mercedes carrying five teens collided with a Toyota Sienna turning left. The Mercedes flipped, slid across the road, and hit two other vehicles. The 82-year-old driver of the Sienna survived.
Students from Fort Lauderdale and St. Thomas Aquinas High Schools were involved. A prayer vigil was held Monday morning. Excessive speed may have contributed to the crash.
Bystander Danny Morillo, who witnessed the car catch fire, attempted to flip it over to rescue trapped teens. “We kept going,” he said. “We flipped the car back on two wheels.”
