Red Flag Warning Issued for South Florida Amid Heightened Fire Risk

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for parts of South Florida due to dangerous fire weather conditions.

According to the agency, Miami-Dade County and Broward County will be under the warning from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.

A Red Flag Warning is issued when a combination of low humidity, strong winds, and dry vegetation creates conditions in which fires can ignite easily and spread rapidly. Officials warned that even small sparks could lead to fast-moving and difficult-to-contain wildfires.

Meteorologists said gusty winds and dry air will significantly increase the risk of brush fires across the region. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly extinguish cigarettes, and use extreme caution with any equipment that could produce sparks.

The last Red Flag Warning in South Florida was issued in April 2025, following a series of wildfires in the Florida Keys that burned for more than a week.

Local fire departments and emergency management agencies are on heightened alert and asked residents to report smoke or fire activity immediately.
