Heavy rainfall drenched the Lower Florida Keys on Monday, setting a new record at Key West International Airport and triggering multiple flood advisories.

The downpour, which peaked by midday, left much of the region saturated. While most areas in the Keys saw between a third of an inch to 1.5 inches of rain, Key West was hit the hardest, recording nearly 9 inches in some spots.

The airport logged 3.13 inches of rain, shattering the previous daily record of 1.62 inches set in 1892. Meanwhile, much of South Florida received less than a quarter of an inch, highlighting the isolated nature of tropical rains.

The extreme rainfall led to widespread flooding across the city, with streets overwhelmed by water. Authorities urged caution as cleanup efforts began.
