A dramatic scene unfolded Monday in Brevard County when a small training aircraft made an emergency landing on Interstate 95 during rush hour and crashed directly onto a moving car.

Dashcam footage shows the plane rapidly descending before striking the vehicle, sending sparks flying as both skidded down the roadway and collided with a guardrail. The crushed car came to rest just behind the mangled plane.

Jim and Peter Coffey, a father and son who witnessed the crash, described the moment as surreal.
“Out of nowhere, that plane came down… total shock,” Jim said. Peter added that while drivers on the opposite side of the road saw the aircraft approaching, “she did not see it coming” — referring to the 57-year-old woman inside the car.

Amazingly, rescue crews reported she suffered only minor injuries.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the plane had departed Merritt Island on an instructional flight when both engines lost power, forcing the pilot to attempt an emergency landing. The two 27-year-old men aboard the aircraft were unharmed, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Federal investigators are examining the wreckage, and the probe remains ongoing.
