A passenger is missing after reportedly going overboard from the Norwegian Jewel as it sailed from Ponta Delgada, Portugal, to Miami on Monday.
Cruise officials confirmed the incident, saying, “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a guest was reported overboard… an extensive search and rescue operation with multiple vessels was conducted.”
Authorities were notified immediately, but the search was unsuccessful. The ship has since been cleared to continue its journey and is expected to arrive in Miami next week.
The passenger’s identity has not been released. Norwegian Cruise Line said its staff is providing support to the missing guest’s loved ones, adding, “Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”
