A serious injury occurred on an American Airlines flight from São Paulo to Miami on Saturday when severe turbulence struck during the flight. A passenger reportedly fractured their leg, and several others were injured, prompting medical evaluations upon landing. The flight, AA930, had been airborne for nearly two hours when the turbulence forced the crew to turn back to São Paulo, about 770 nautical miles from the airport.

The Boeing 777-200ER, with 221 passengers and 12 crew members onboard, had just reached cruising altitude when it encountered the turbulence. The seatbelt sign was on at the time, and the aircraft was making its way to 38,000 feet when the turbulence hit. After the turn back, the plane landed safely at São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport at 2:21 AM local time.

The injured passenger was taken to a hospital, while others received medical attention for minor injuries. The incident follows another turbulence-related injury involving two flight attendants on a flight from Tokyo to New York earlier in the week. American Airlines thanked the crew for their professionalism and passengers for their understanding during the return flight.
