Courtney Clenney, a Miami social media influencer charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, returned to court on Friday. The 28-year-old is accused of killing Obumseli in their Edgewater condo in April 2022.
During the hearing, Clenney’s defense team argued that she acted in self-defense, claiming she threw a knife at Obumseli while trying to escape an abusive relationship. The defense presented a knife-throwing demonstration using a pig carcass to show that it was possible for Clenney to have thrown the knife from a distance of five to six feet, as she maintains.
Prosecutors countered, citing Clenney’s statement to police that she threw the knife from about 10 feet away, questioning the validity of her self-defense claim.
Clenney has been held without bond since her arrest, but her attorneys are seeking her release. The judge indicated a ruling on the bond request will be made next month. At the time of Obumseli’s death, Clenney, known online as “Courtney Tailor,” had over 2 million Instagram followers and was active on platforms like OnlyFans.
