Number 4 Miami Hurricanes Outlasts Florida Gators in Defensive Battle

The No. 4 Miami Hurricanes stayed unbeaten with a gritty 26-7 win over in-state rival Florida on Saturday night, despite offensive struggles.

Marty Brown powered the Hurricanes with two short rushing touchdowns, including a late score that sealed the game. Mark Fletcher Jr. added 116 rushing yards and another touchdown. Miami’s defense carried the night, holding Florida to just 141 total yards — the Gators’ lowest offensive output in more than 25 years.

Florida’s lone highlight came in the third quarter when Jadan Baugh scored on a 7-yard run, extending the program’s NCAA-record scoring streak to 465 consecutive games. Still, the Gators are off to their worst start since 1986, dropping to 1-3 under embattled coach Billy Napier.

Quarterback D.J. Lagway completed just 12 of 23 passes for 61 yards, while Miami’s Carson Beck went 17 of 30 for 160 yards and an interception. A controversial whistle in the third quarter nullified what appeared to be a long Miami touchdown, briefly giving Florida hope. But Miami’s defense never allowed them closer than six points.

The Hurricanes are now 4-0, unbeaten at home since last season, and have won seven straight against in-state opponents.
