The mystery surrounding a human head found on a Key Biscayne beach has been solved. Authorities confirmed that the remains belong to 19-year-old Victor Enrique Castaneda Jr., who went missing after getting caught in a rip current while swimming off Miami Beach last Saturday. Castaneda, who had been swimming with his younger sister at South Pointe Beach, was swept into the ocean around 6 p.m. Beachgoers rescued his sister, but Castaneda disappeared.
On Tuesday, a beach worker discovered the head near the Oceansound Key Colony II condominium on Crandon Blvd. Miami Beach and Miami-Dade police later confirmed the identity of the remains through the medical examiner’s office.
Castaneda’s family is mourning his loss. His sister, Jessica, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, expressing her grief. A memorial service is planned for Saturday at South Pointe Beach, the location where he was last seen. The family has also started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for funeral expenses, which has surpassed $25,000 of its $50,000 goal. Investigators have ruled out foul play, though the case remains under investigation.
