A mother was shot in the neck Monday evening while driving on Interstate 95 with her 5-year-old son in the car. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. near Northwest 135th Street as the woman, driving a black Lexus, was struck by gunfire from another vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The victim, who has not been identified, was hit after hearing at least two shots. Her son, unharmed, ducked to the floor in fear. The mother was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center and is reported to be in stable condition.
FHP temporarily closed the southbound lanes of I-95 to investigate the shooting. Authorities have not released any information on a suspect or vehicle involved.
