Mother Seeks Justice After Son Killed During Alleged Home Invasion in Miami-Dade

November 22 is a day Lashundia Jackson says she will never forget.

Her son, Quanterry Whitley, was shot and killed after four people allegedly attempted to force their way into a home in southwest Miami-Dade. Investigators say the homeowner fired the fatal shot. Jackson disputes that her son was involved in a home invasion.

“No matter what he did, the one thing I know he didn’t do is a home invasion,” she said.

Jackson described Whitley as a devoted father of three and said he was raised with love by two mothers — herself and another woman who helped raise him. She believes her son was searching for help the night he was killed.

Jackson said she later visited the home to speak with the shooter and request surveillance video. She claims the footage shows her son begging for help.

“In the beginning of the video, my son is begging and asking to call 911,” Jackson said. “That’s a clear call for help.”

The homeowner previously told NBC6 he acted out of fear, saying Whitley tried to force his way inside.

“I had no intentions of killing him,” the man said. “I panicked. It’s the worst night of my life.”

Jackson says the pain has not eased and wants accountability.

“He has three kids who will never know their father,” she said.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office says there are no arrests and no new updates in the case.
