A disturbing case has rocked El Portal after 19-year-old Yadelin Marin was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and battery in connection with the brutal stabbing of a puppy named Kory.

Police say the incident occurred July 12 inside a bathroom on NW 82nd Street. According to the arrest report, officers found Marin sitting in a bathtub near the puppy’s body, covered in blood. A witness, Gina Lenza, who rents a room in the home, said Marin had been staying there intermittently and had recently shown up with the puppy. Lenza claims she received a shocking text saying, “She stabbed her,” before finding Marin acting “perfectly normal.”

When taken into custody, Marin reportedly spit at an officer. She has since been assigned a public defender and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. Lenza believes Marin needs long-term intervention, calling the event “sick” and “horrific.”
