Miami Lakes residents Julio Gil and Rafael Perez are challenging town orders to remove their Trump flags. Gil, who has displayed his flag since 2016, expressed outrage after receiving a letter from a code compliance officer, demanding the removal of political signs to maintain community aesthetics.
The letter, dated January 9, threatens fines of $500 daily if the flags are not removed within seven days. The directive follows the town’s code on temporary political signage, which allows such signs only during specific periods around elections.
Town Manager Edward Pidermann and attorney Raul Gastesi emphasized the code’s purpose is to uphold community standards, not to target any political views.
Despite the threats, Gil remains defiant, planning to add more flags and support neighbors in doing the same, asserting his belief in free expression in the United States.
