A Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputy is facing serious federal charges after allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl and later threatening to kill her, according to a newly unsealed federal affidavit.

Deputy Carle Miranda Blum, 51, was arrested Wednesday and is accused of receiving and producing sexually explicit images and videos involving the minor. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed Blum is a 29-year veteran of the department.

The investigation began after a tip received July 14 from a witness who alerted authorities to the relationship. According to the affidavit, the victim’s mental health deteriorated during the year-long relationship, leading to her involuntary psychiatric hospitalization in Atlanta under the Baker Act.

Investigators say electronic evidence, including text messages, Instagram communications, and videos dating back to when the victim was 17, showed an ongoing sexual relationship. Authorities allege Blum traveled from South Florida to Atlanta to meet the victim and recorded sexual encounters.

Messages reviewed by investigators reportedly included a countdown to the victim’s 18th birthday and references to plans for marriage. Blum is also accused of buying the victim a car.

When the victim attempted to end the relationship, Blum allegedly sent threatening messages, including a graphic death threat involving a knife.

Blum faces multiple federal charges that carry mandatory minimum sentences of up to 15 years. She is currently being held in Georgia as the federal case proceeds.
