Miami-Dade commissioners have officially approved Hialeah’s decision to rename a historic stretch of Palm Avenue to “President Donald J. Trump Avenue.” The vote took place during a meeting on Tuesday, following approval by the Hialeah City Council last year.
The renaming stems from an announcement by Hialeah Mayor Esteban “Steve” Bovo, who presented Trump with a street sign at a rally in 2023. The newly named avenue stretches over four miles through the heart of Hialeah, a city where Trump won approximately 75% of the vote in the 2020 election.
Commissioner Kevin Cabrera voiced strong support for the renaming, calling the avenue a symbol of Trump’s legacy. “By naming this vital artery after President Trump, we honor his dedication to the principles of freedom, prosperity, and opportunity,” Cabrera said.
The move is seen as a tribute to Trump’s strong local support, as well as his impact on the community. It also marks the first time in decades that a Republican presidential candidate has carried Miami-Dade County.
