Man Arrested for Kidnapping 6-Year-Old in Miami-Dade

A Miami-Dade man has been arrested after allegedly kidnapping a 6-year-old boy who was playing soccer in his front yard on Saturday. Jose Reynaldo Martinez Reyes, 56, faces charges of kidnapping and interference with custody.

Police say the boy was playing with his older brother near Northwest 79th Street when Reyes approached the child, offering to play soccer and promising to buy him a toy. The boy left the house with Reyes on foot.

When the older brother realized the child was missing, he and a family friend launched a search. They found the boy over a mile away, walking hand in hand with Reyes. A confrontation ensued, but the older brother managed to rescue the child and drive him to safety.

Reyes claimed the boy was his child, but authorities confirmed the two were strangers. He was arrested and booked into jail. Miami-Dade Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
