A Lauderhill Police officer was hospitalized Tuesday after being deliberately run over while assisting with an investigation in Sunrise, authorities said.

The incident occurred near 2330 North University Drive outside a busy shopping plaza. Witnesses described a shocking attack in which the driver of a blue Nissan Rogue repeatedly ran over the officer and a woman he was speaking with.

“He clearly tried to kill him,” witness Diondre Noel said. “The officer got up and hid for his life behind the trees.”

The suspect fled the scene but was later stopped in Plantation near Sunrise Boulevard and Northwest 47th Avenue. Police have not released further details about the driver.

Footage from a nearby Tesla reportedly captured the incident, showing the brutal attack unfold. Noel, who attempted to record the scene, said the driver then turned toward him, forcing him to run for safety.

Bystanders rushed to help the injured officer, who was badly hurt, possibly with a broken leg and facial injuries. He was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition.

Authorities continue to investigate the case, and further details are expected as the situation develops.
