FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man and a woman were hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a dangerous house fire in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday afternoon. The fire, located on Whale Harbor Lane near Riverland Road, was reportedly sparked by multiple explosions.
According to Frank Guzman of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, a 27-year-old man was “overcome by smoke” while rescuing a woman from the burning home. Witness Jovan Anderson, who was preparing to watch the Miami Dolphins game, heard “explosions” before the fire erupted.
Firefighters arrived to find the house engulfed in flames and smoke, along with a nearby shed containing propane tanks. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue’s HAZMAT team worked to safely burn off the propane.
The injured man was transported to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment, while the woman’s injuries were less severe, so she did not require hospitalization. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
