Heavy Rains Cause Flash Flooding, Travel Chaos Across Miami

Torrential downpours drenched South Florida on Monday, turning streets into rivers, stalling vehicles, and delaying hundreds of flights.

In Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood, residents waded through knee-deep water as pumps struggled to push floodwaters back into Biscayne Bay. Locals say the flooding is a recurring nightmare. “Every time it rains, the street becomes an ocean,” one resident said.

Flooding was also reported in Little Havana and Tamiami, while major highways slowed to a crawl. At Miami International Airport, weather conditions triggered a temporary ground stop, leading to hundreds of delays and cancellations. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport experienced similar disruptions.

The National Weather Service reported 2–4 inches of rainfall in some areas, with localized totals higher. Flood advisories remain in effect for low-lying neighborhoods.
