Anthony Arce, 22, was riding his motorcycle in Coral Gables when he was fatally struck by an SUV at US-1 and Madruga Court. The driver, identified by police as David Aleman, fled the scene.

Four days later, authorities arrested Aleman with the help of red light cameras and social media. According to an arrest report, Aleman admitted to hitting Arce and failing to stay and help. He now faces charges for leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

Arce’s family is devastated. “He was a good boy and becoming a good man,” said his mother, Claudia Arce. “He didn’t deserve this.”

Anthony, her only son, worked two jobs, made people laugh, and loved riding his motorcycle. His older sisters, Janelle and Emily, described him as the heart of their family — full of life, love, and unexpected wisdom.

“I’m the big sister, but he took me to my first party,” Janelle said. “He was the life of the party.”

The pain of his loss is deepened by the fact that the driver left him behind. “Accidents happen,” Claudia said. “But you don’t leave another human being. You just don’t.”

Aleman was released on bond Wednesday night. The Arce family is left searching for answers — and holding on to each other.

A GoFundMe has been launched to support the family.
