The Haulover Park is a large, expansive urban park that can be easily accessed by the public from multiple points along its coastline and offers some of the best scenic views in all of Miami-Dade County. It is open for public use every day from sunrise to sunset. The area is popular for water sports and its sandy beach can be visited north of Bal Harbour, Florida. The park is conveniently located north of the Broad Causeway and Collins Avenue. It’s right between the Atlantic Ocean and the bay. Approximately 2.4 km long of the shoreline is a nude beach recognized, approved, and maintained by the local government. It’s one of the few clothing-optional beaches in South Miami and also serves as a commemoration site for early settlers in this part of Miami.

After initially refusing to sanction the usage of permanent signs for the clothing-optional area, the county approval for their installation was granted after it was determined that such installation would not create any potential liability issues. There is a concession that provides food and umbrellas that can be rented out in the clothing-optional area. It is one of the largest nude beaches in the United States and is estimated to have attracted over 3 million visitors per year.

The start of World War II halted the construction of beach facilities in 1941. Construction was held off until the end of the war. The park, formerly known as Johnny Appleseed Park, was renamed “Haulover Park” in January 1947 after the property resumed its original purpose in 1945.

This park is also a great place for dog owners to take their pets because it offers things such as a marina, tennis courts, and a dog park. This is perfect for the many area residents who enjoy the company of their canine friends. At the southern end of the park are some recreational areas, such as a children’s playground and an open meadow. Nearby is also a paved walking trail with benches for rest.
