Gunshots Prompt Panic at Florida City Walmart

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – Chaos erupted at a Walmart Supercenter in southern Miami-Dade County on Saturday after shoppers heard gunshots while inside the store. Witnesses said they fled in panic, running to the back of the store and exiting through the rear. Videos from the scene show the intense fear and confusion as police and emergency responders arrived.

Robert Malneo, a witness, described how he and others rushed out and waited for law enforcement to secure the area. One video showed Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel attending to a handcuffed man on a stretcher, placing him in an ambulance. A Florida City police officer, seemingly unharmed, was also seen in the ambulance.

A woman, claiming to be a relative of a loss prevention employee, said the suspect – who had been detained for retail theft – drew a weapon after being left alone with a police officer. Police have not confirmed her account as of Sunday afternoon.
