Freeze Warning Issued for Miami-Dade and Broward as South Florida Faces Coldest Air in Years

South Florida is bracing for its coldest temperatures in over a decade as a Freeze Warning goes into effect for Miami-Dade and Broward counties from 10 p.m. Saturday through 10 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters say temperatures could dip into the low to mid-30s, with even colder wind chills overnight. Inland areas may experience near-freezing conditions, posing risks to vulnerable populations, pets, and unprotected vegetation.

Officials are urging residents to dress in warm layers if venturing outside, including hats, gloves, and face coverings. Pets should be brought indoors, and caution is advised when using space heaters to prevent fires or carbon monoxide exposure.

Meteorologists say Saturday’s relatively calm weather is deceptive, calling it “the calm before the storm.” A powerful cold front moving across the state is expected to bring gusty winds and scattered showers before temperatures plunge overnight.

This cold snap could mark the coldest air mass to reach South Florida in up to 16 years, depending on how low temperatures fall early Sunday morning. Emergency officials continue monitoring conditions closely.
