Florida Launches First-Ever Gun and Ammo Tax Holiday

Starting Monday, Floridians can buy guns, ammunition, and outdoor gear tax-free through year’s end. The unprecedented holiday was included in a sweeping tax package approved by lawmakers this summer.

Hunting rifles, shotguns, handguns, and related accessories qualify, alongside fishing and camping supplies. Gov. Ron DeSantis initially pitched the idea as a “Second Amendment Summer,” but lawmakers pushed the holiday to later in the year, when hunting season peaks.

Supporters say the move will save shoppers $44.8 million statewide, but critics call it dangerous. Sen. Tina Polsky (D-Boca Raton) labeled it “irresponsible” and faulted lawmakers for excluding gun safes and locks from the discount list.
