A Broward County car sale spiraled into a violent kidnapping when a father and son allegedly held a man and his girlfriend at gunpoint, believing they were being scammed.

Authorities arrested 50-year-old Oscar Garcia-Berrios and his son 23-year-old Brandon Garcia after a series of escalating confrontations stemming from Garcia’s recent purchase of a 2021 Mercedes-Benz S500 for $37,000 cash.

Two days after the sale, Garcia reportedly received an accidental text from someone working with the car salesman, suggesting the seller planned to “rip them off.” Garcia arranged a meeting at a Pompano Beach shop to “clear things up.” When the victim arrived, Garcia, his father, and a third man confronted him.

According to investigators, the suspects demanded the victim immediately change paperwork and issue a permanent tag. When he refused, Garcia pulled an AR-15–style weapon while his father drew a pistol. They disarmed the victim, photographed his identification, and held him for nearly an hour. When the victim’s girlfriend arrived, she too was detained.

The suspects then forced the couple to drive to multiple locations at gunpoint, including the home of the car salesman’s mother. At one point, the victim tried directing them to a busy Wawa known for police presence, but the suspects fled upon spotting officers.

Eventually, the victim contacted family members by text, alerting them that he had been kidnapped. Police located the group at a RaceTrac in Hollywood, where the car salesman had agreed to meet. Garcia was arrested with multiple weapons and the victim’s phone.

Both suspects face charges including kidnapping, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, and are being held without bond. The third accomplice fled and has not been identified.
