Newly released videos reveal chilling footage in the attempted murder case of Yessenia Sanchez, 32, who allegedly shot her ex-boyfriend, Miami-Dade officer Damian Colon, in the head in November 2022.
Authorities say Sanchez, a former Miami-Dade Schools Police officer, tracked Colon using an app and confronted him at his Hialeah home. Surveillance footage shows the two talking before Sanchez allegedly raises a gun, fires at Colon’s face, and walks away as he collapses.
After the shooting, Sanchez fled, crashing into several vehicles near 45th Street and Palm Avenue before attempting to escape on foot. She was later arrested at her home. Bodycam footage shows her being led away in handcuffs, with a woman heard crying in the background.
Sanchez now faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, stalking, and leaving the scene of a crash. She remains jailed without bond.
Colon, a 17-year Miami-Dade Police veteran, survived but endured extensive surgeries and rehabilitation. The two had been in a relationship for seven years before the attack.
Sanchez had previously resigned from her police job in 2021 to avoid termination after being arrested for domestic violence.
